Repairing a Merino Knit – Extend the Life of Your Favourite Sweater

A small hole in a merino knit doesn’t mean it’s time to throw the garment away. FabPatch™ Merino helps you repair knitwear easily, neatly, and without sewing, so your favourite clothing can stay in use for longer.

Made from genuine merino wool, the FabPatch™ repair patch blends naturally into knitwear, creating a discreet repair that feels comfortable to wear.

Easy Knitwear Repair Without Sewing

FabPatch™ Merino is designed for repairing wool sweaters and other knitted garments quickly at home.

The repair is:

  • No sewing or ironing required
  • Completed in just a few minutes
  • Neat and discreet
  • Made using genuine merino wool

The flexible merino knit patch moves naturally with the garment and feels comfortable during everyday wear.

How to Repair Knitwear Easily

  1. Peel the backing paper from the FabPatch™ patch about halfway, always starting from the fabric side.
  2. Position the exposed adhesive surface over the damaged area without touching the adhesive, then slide the backing paper away.
  3. If the hole is large, place a second FabPatch™ patch or a small piece of fabric on the reverse side. For small holes, you can gently pinch the edges together before applying the patch.
  4. Secure the patch by rubbing it firmly with a blunt object for 1–2 minutes.

Done! Your knitwear is ready to wear again. For best results, avoid excessive stretching or getting the repaired area wet for approximately 3 days after application.

Common Areas Where Holes Appear in Knitwear

FabPatch™ Merino is particularly effective for:

  • Worn elbows
  • Cuffs
  • Underarm friction damage
  • Small holes
  • Preventing dropped stitches from spreading
  • Reinforcing merino sock heels or stopping toes from poking through

A quick repair helps prevent holes from growing larger and extends the life of your garment. The patch can also be used proactively to reinforce thinning areas before a hole develops.

Tips for Repairing Merino Garments

1. Reinforce Before Holes Appear

Reinforce high-wear areas, such as elbows, with a larger FabPatch™ Merino patch before the fabric wears through. This helps extend the lifespan of your knitwear even further.

2. Stop a Run Early

A small run is easy to prevent from getting bigger by covering it with a small FabPatch™ Merino patch.

3. Apply the Patch to the Inside

Attach the FabPatch™ Merino patch to the inside of the garment. This way, the wonderfully soft merino wool surface stays against your skin.

An Easy Alternative to Darning

Traditional darning takes time, yarn, and sewing skills. FabPatch™ Merino offers a quick and easy way to repair small holes – no sewing required.

FabPatch™ Merino is perfect when you want to:

  • repair your knitwear quickly
  • achieve a neat finish
  • choose an easy everyday repair solution
  • fix your knitwear in just a few minutes

Both patching and darning help extend the lifespan of your clothes and reduce unnecessary waste.

Give Your Favourite Knit More Years of Wear

A quality merino knit can feel wonderful year after year. Often, a small hole is the only reason an otherwise perfect garment ends up unworn.

A quick repair helps:

  • Keep your favourite garment in use
  • Reduce unnecessary purchases
  • Extend the lifespan of your clothing
  • Save money and natural resources

A small repair can give your knitwear years of additional use.
